Fall at Downer's Covered Bridge over the Black River in Vermont.

This is one of the most colorful seasons in the North East part of the United States. Looking through the opening of the bridge you will notice the wood pegging of the plank lattice truss and the gable detail unique to the Downer's bridge built in 1840. One can also see the boulders supporting the bridge abutments, which are attributable to the skill of the stonemasons and their ability to do dry stonework which has endured over 160 years. The graceful 120 foot span of the bridge is surrounded by the vibrant fall colors of Vermont. As in the two companion pieces, there is a hidden treat for the young ones to discover which is the result of a visit by a young black bear when working on location for this painting.
