Memories of maple sugaring in Vermont. *Note the old repair in the stonewall, the old dead maple with the telltale burl left by the ancient chisel method of sap gathering. Also note the badly burned hand, the result of steam from the sugarhouse. In addition there is a hidden chipmunk for the kids to enjoy. |

| Tools Used For The Painting |
| A recycled wooden bucket which first saw duty as a pail then with a broken stave handle area, it was recycled into a sap bucket, then later in the painting recycled again, it is shown being used as a tool bucket with an updated rope handle. Also used in the painting is the brace and bit belonging to my grandfather. Braces of this short crank type were used for drilling maple trees because of their speed. Also shown are the galvanized sap buckets and the very old wooden mallet and chisel used for cutting a very ugly scar in which the wooden spout was placed as shown in the companion painting CHISELING SAP. |
